“Happy people are grateful for what they have, whereas unhappy people only focus on what they don’t have. Happy people are grateful for what they have, whereas unhappy people only focus on what they don’t have or are missing from their lives.” – Arief Subagja.

Then, what things make me happy? This question sounds simple, but it not simple as it seems when it comes to writing it, it needs reflection. However, I am glad to finally be able to write down ten things that make me happy, and because I am delighted, so I added two points as a bonus.
All right, so, after I ponder, this is what I got about the things that make me happy.

1. Can Complete Writing Tasks

I put this thing first because I feel it now. I always pay attention to my feelings when I successfully finish my writing tasks, I am happy when I get my thing done, whether it’s writing for a blog, a script for an anthology or it’s a story on social media.

2. Having His Attention

Get a massage when I am tired or get a quick kiss on the cheek when I do the dishes. I may not give any expression, but my heart is blooming.

3. Family is Healthy and Happy

I don’t need to explain at the length of this. Nothing worries me when I see my family healthy and cheerful. Their cheerfulness and smile are happiness.

3. To be hugged and Kissed by My little Sweety

My little sweetheart is always excited when invited to go out for a walk or ask to come along to spend nights at his grandma’s house.

When I can’t go with him because of some reason, he would give me kisses to all parts of my face. From cheeks, lips, nose, eyes, forehead while saying, “Your cheeks, your nose, your eyes, your forehead.” Then say goodbye while running away to get to his dad.

If he forgets to kiss my palm, he will return to me to do it and give me his last hug. (kissing the palm of parents’ hand before leaving is a custom in Indonesia as a form of respect to the parents).

He is cute, and to have his hugs and kisses make me feel happy.

4. Get Enough Sleep

When I get enough sleep with good quality sleep, I feel excellent when I wake up in the morning. As a result, I welcome the morning with enthusiasm, and it would be otherwise when I don’t get enough sleep. Sometimes, my head is dizzy, my concentration decreases, and my emotions become unstable. As a result, doing work becomes less enthusiastic. Therefore, it feels good when I get enough time to sleep.

5. Completing the Daily To-Do List Well

Nothing makes me feel very productive other than completing all the daily to-do lists, which sometimes go in ten rows, and it would be double happiness for me when I have all the list above to get through the day.

6. Learning Something New

I think everyone is agree that learning something new make us healthy and happier. When learning something new, we engange in difficult-but-doable activities.

I still remember learning how to make book cover designs at night with sleepy eyes, but I keep doing it. I kept trying until finally, I managed to develop something that I thought was pretty good.

When we learn something, and we are engrossed in doing it, the time seems to stop, and the happiness is genuine when we complete the assignment. So, yes, learning something new is on the list of things that make me happy.

7. Can Access the Internet

Today’s happiness had indeed shifted away from what it was when there were no devices and the internet. Perhaps, going back twenty years, when I am asked about things that make me happy, replying to a love letter might be one of my answers. But nowadays, when I can connect with people from all over Indonesia, even from abroad, to make correspondent, learn about other cultures, and know what is happening in a different part of the world because of the ease of accessing the internet is something to be grateful.

9. Stop Comparing Myself to Others

“Everything in life is easier when you don’t concern yourself with what everybody else is doing.”

Because of the ease of internet access, we are exposed to a lot of information. Social media is a place for people to discuss anything, including storing their respective portfolios. We see it, read it, and compare our weaknesses to others’ strengths without realizing it. Of course, this makes us feel bad.

I am grateful to have realized this long ago and stopped comparing myself to others, and focusing on me makes me feel great.

10. When I Can be Calm while Something Doesn’t Go My Way

Sometimes, unexpectedly, something unpleasant happens. To make it worse, when one bad thing happens, the second thing follows. However, when it happens and I am able to keep my emotions stable, I feel like my world in the peace when I’m not provoked by negative emotions.

Extra:

11. Spending Time Only with Myself when I Need it

“We need solitude, because when we’re alone, we’re free from obligations, we don’t need to put on a show, and we can hear our own thoughts.” ~ Tamim Ansary

After going through a solid day for a long time, my energy will be drained away. So, to raise my spirits, sometimes I need some time alone. When I have that time, I feel happy. Then, for added happiness, I add the twelfth point.

12. Enjoying Chocolate Ice Cream or a Bar of Chocolate

So far, those twelve points above that I can think of about the things that make me happy. Maybe I’ll add another matter if I remember or find something else.

How about you, what are the things that make you happy? Would you please share yours in the comment?
