The unique feature of the Gili is that locals and tourists are prohibited from using motorized vehicles on the island. They ride a bicycle or Cidomo (a small horse-drawn carriage) for alternative transportation. The prohibition is intended to eliminate air pollution. How to Get to Gili Trawangan Island?

Gili Trawangan is most famous probably because of its location closest to Bali island. You can go to Gili island by fast boat from Bali via Padang Bay and get your Gili fast boat tickets from travel agents in Kuta before exchanging through Padang Bai. A handful of fast boat operators depart from Padang Bai to the Gili islands in the mornings between 9:00 A.M and 9:30 A.M

Gili Cat is the most popular fast boat to the Gili and you can book tickets online through their site and another reputable fast boat is the Blue Water Express or if you have more time you can travel by public ferry from Padang Bai to Lombok departing every hour on the hour, Then continue to use another  public ferry from Lombok to the Gili, total trip will take over 8 hours.

Activities You Can Do in Gili Trawangan

Gili Trawangan is the island where you will find the widest range of activities such as Scuba Diving, Snorkeling, Kayaking, and Surfing. You can also see traditional martial arts called Presean or stick fighting which is usually displayed around the Gili Trawangan art market.

There is also a turtle conservation area on Gili Trawangan, where green turtles are bred, and then eventually released to the sea. The turtle’s conservation area is located close to the port of Gili Trawangan.

To enter the conservation area, you are required to pay an entrance ticket of Rp50,000 Rupiah /person Or about 4 US$. Revenues from tickets to the conservation area is mainly used to subsidize the conservation work.
